New Year Lessons

Another year has come and gone and I'm not going to over share but let's just say this year has been a challenge. It got off to a rocky start but since bitches ain't shit I just picked myself up, brushed off the dust and continued in an onwards and upwards fashion. Nonetheless, here are some lessons I have learnt this year:
  • Dry body brushing is the best
  • Do not dry body brush on sunburn; you're gonna have a bad time
  • When in doubt: Travel
  • Good friends can change your life
  • Wine can be dinner if you have enough of it
  • If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck... it's a duck
  • Buzzfeed cures boredom
  • Invest in an oil for your skin; Rosehip, Vitamin A... take your pick!
  • Having too many clothes can just be stressful
  • Throwing things out is very cathartic
  • Say yes to new things
  • But saying no is also a good (and necessary) thing
  • Life is too short for shoes that make your feet sore
  • It's OK to sit down in the middle of the road if you want to (metaphorically!) just make sure you get back up again
  • Tailoring your clothes is an easy step into adult-hood and worth it's weight in gold
  • Know when to nurture something (a friendship, an opportunity... a garden!) and when to let it go

Twas the Night Before Christmas

Shirt: MinkPink, Shorts: Atmos&Here via The Iconic (similar here and here), Heels: Windsor Smith

And not a Christmassy thing was in sight! Haha!
These are one of my wardrobe staples that will be the corner stone of my 5 Piece Wardrobe... they go with everything and I could wear them everyday (if I didn't wash them). They're part of a short suit that I bought with a blazer and had tailored to fit the way I wanted. Tailoring is worth it's weight in gold! These Windsor Smith heels are another wardrobe staple; black, chunky AND strappy.
Anyway that's enough of me traipsing around the carpark... Merry Christmas Eve everyone!
Here is a hot tip from my 10 year old self... if you go to sleep in your favourite outfit you will be extremely ready to open presents the next morning. Sadly, this is not a joke and something I actually have done due to being obsessed with my new denim shorts and checked shirt (country bumpkin at heart).
Hope you all have the best Christmas full of love, food and laughter!
xx

5 Piece French Wardrobe: Capsule Wardrobe

My 5 Piece French Wardrobe dream has taken firm roots and while I have the occasional dilemma like: "Um well no I can't wear the same black dress on every date" or "What about a work wardrobe?!" I'm becoming so ruthless with what is allowed the glory of a hanger (haven't really started on the draws yet haha).
In my search for clarity I found this great guide to what you really need. I've also looked at the Basic Wardrobe Shopping List from this article and I'd recommend writing out your own 'must haves' depending on your climate or style.
What is about an infographic that makes you feel like you can conquer the world in 3 easy steps?

Things I Love: Hats

Hats aren't for everyone but I adore them anyway no matter the shape or size! (All hats are beautiful hahaha) I think old fashioned styles are beyond chic but I also love rocking a snapback... I'm not fussy! In another life I would've have loved to become a milliner... *daydreaming sigh*
Start familiarising yourself with the different styles below and don't be scared to experiment. If Pharrell can do it, so can you!
You can pick up some budget freindly hats from ASOS, check them out here.
My top pick is Lack of Colour, they do some truly amazing colours in the best basic styles.
My top 3 must haves for any budding hat-re-preneur:
1. Fedora
2. Turban
3. Cloche

4 Steps to Shrinking Pores with Clinique

I wrote a little check list for reducing your pores (or appearance of pores more accurately) some time ago for a website who failed to publish it (shame on them). Waste not, want not! (plus their loss) so I will post it here for you guys!

I struggle with enlarged pores and it has led to more than one meltdown over 'bad' skin. Which is why I’m declaring a new found beauty love: Clinique Pore Refining Solutions Correcting Serum.

Like I said, I am a long sufferer of large pores and I have tried many a cream, toner and DIY remedy. I’d resigned myself to the fact that it was just my skin type; until I popped open a bottle of Pore Refining Serum and viola! 2 weeks after starting to use it I could SEE a difference. My pores were tighter, smaller and my skin was smooth and glowing.

At $68 a pop it’s bordering on the payday debate of “shoes or make-up” but remember it’s an investment in your skin. One pump goes far too, and after the 2 week mark I cut it down to half a pump and focused on my problem areas (nose, cheeks)

Without further ado (aka gushing/bragging) here is my fool proof, simple to follow guide to smaller pores:

1. Drinks lots of water! You should anyway but since I committed to drinking 2 litres a day my skin is healthier from the inside out (there’s that glow)

2. Follow your Clinique 3-Step. Even when you’ve had a few wines okay? You need the pores clean (Step 1) and smoothed (Step 2) and moisturised (Step 3) There’s no sense in trying to tighten pores with something in them (ew)

3. Apply Pore Refining Solutions. Morning and night, after your 3 Step cleansing ritual. I was sceptical about putting on top of moisturiser but it is the PERFECT primer for under make-up.

4. Brag about new, shiny, invisible pore like skin. I personally have started referring to myself as Ms Kerr but you can find your own moniker.

Lobster Love with Gorman

Lobsters are one of my favourite animals. Don't ask me why, it's weird, but they amuse me and up until recently I thought they were immortal (I'm going to continue saying they are anyway). As soon as I spotted this dress in Gorman's Summer 2014 collection I lost my mind and vowed to buy all the lobster items! I've reigned it in lest I become the lobster version of a crazy cat lady but I couldn't say no to this dress! It's so easy and breezy and perfect for a hot Australian Summer!
It's unfortunately sold out online but check out some of their stores (Westfield Miranda just opened which is my local stomping ground!) I'm lusting after this one too... but the homewares range is killing me.

5 Piece French Wardrobe: Clear it out!

In preparation for my 5 Piece French Wardrobe, I've had to do a SERIOUS cull.
I won't lie, there has almost been tears.
Truthfully though for this to work you need to start from a simple and small base.
This infographic helped me set a strict criteria for keep or toss (I prefer donate but I'm a woman of the people and don't wear my clothes until they're only suitable for rags) so give it a go and see if it helps you make those tough choices!

Christmas Gift Guide

Not sure what to get your loved ones this silly season? (Or mum, if you're reading this just pick from the below, ta!) Because I am thoughtful and love Christmas, I've compiled a little list of stocking fillers and one of a kind gifts for any budget!

Belash Handmade Soy Candles
Inspired by regions in Adelaide (where they're made) this one will be perfect with a bottle of wine from McLaren Vale!

We already know I adore personalised goodies and I'm sure your friends and family will too. PLUS free worldwide express shipping!

Relaxation is what the holiday period is all about and the packaging is so cute it'll be a bath product you won't want to hide in the back of the cupboard.

Everything C. Wonder makes is fantastic but these go beyond that because who doesn't LOVE cheese?!

This is one of those handy products all of us think about buying but never do, it'll charge your phone on the go and is sleek and chic! Now let your mother do the hard work of clicking 'add to cart'.

The gift for the girl who has everything or the traveler. It just screams Blair Waldorf which makes me scream Yes!

Spend those lazy sunny days designing your own calendar and planning the year ahead. This is one of those gifts that keeps on giving but in a good way.

If you haven't seen the awesome TV show based on this book then stop and read this first! Being part of a series, you can take all the credit when the receiver of your present becomes hooked.

Tonic always chooses the most beautiful prints and owning anything from their range makes you instantly happier. Fact.
