Sunday Reads

Sunday is my favourite day to lounge around the house and just do nothing. I have even been known to go so far as to declare it a 'clothing free' day and not wear anything other than a robe. Naturally the perfect Sunday is one wear it's rainy (no reason to be at the beach), I've had a late night (Oh Saturday night you are a cruel mistress) and I have a good book! My love for reading is something my mother always encouraged in my sister and I, we often had a book (or 50 to make 'tents') open rather than the TV on growing up. That being said, here is a list of my top 5 reads, amongst a list of potentially hundreds, that you should add to your bookshelf!

1. Gone Girl, Gillian Flynn
2. Tuesday's With Morrie, Mitch Albom
3. Veronica Decides to Die, Paulo Coelho
4. The Thorn Birds, Colleen McCullough
5. The Kite Runner, Khaled Hosseini

Style Crush: Miroslava Duma

If you haven't heard of Mira (That's what her friends call her and I'm sure we'd be bffs if we ever met) then you've definitely seen her images among the fashion and street style spreads. Not only does the Russian beauty wear Christopher Kane (see the last image; one of the designers on my 'must own' list) she is also a big fan of a matching suit set just like me! (Here and here) AND to further cement our bff/soul mate status: she rocks a mean statement necklace! She challenges trends, has her own style amongst a sea of other fashionistas and is never scared to wear something wacky or bright.
If you need any other reasons to love her, I will leave you with two of her best quotes:

Donna Karan once said that if it takes more than 20 minutes to get ready you have some problems with your appearance. I totally agree.

Some say yoga is the answer; as for me, I like to eat Toffee caramel candies.

Clinique It Girl Post 8

It saddens me to say that I've reached the end of my Clinique It Girl Journey. Read my heart wrenching tale of love and loss (I'm so melodramatic ha ha ha) here. It was such an amazing, once in a lifetime (unless they'll have me back!) experience and I wish I could thank each and every one of you who voted for me and supported me, big hugs and a sneaky butt pinch! <3

UPDATE: It would appear the link is no longer working so....

This is my last post as a Clinique It Girl, amongst the tears I’ll tell you about the ups and the downs (spoiler alert: there are none) of this year.
Parting is such a sweet sorrow and I’m feeling very poetic about farewelling you all. This year has been such an amazing experience that I could not have done without all your support. I’m so sad this is coming to an end (I can’t stay on another year can I?). As some of you know this was my first foray into beauty blogging (I primarily run a fashion blog) and I feel so blessed to have discovered another passion in my life! Clinique is a product I’d used previously but after this year I know I’ll be a ‘lifer’ (that also may be because I have a very healthy stock pile! Ha ha) I’ve learnt so much about beauty and really expanded my horizons; my number one beauty tip is: Don’t be scared, go for it! Ok so here is my round up:

My favourite Post: Room for Roses
A product I hadn’t tried before and fell in love with: Fresh Bloom Allover Colour
The product I will NEVER stop using: Take The Day Off Makeup Remover For Lids, Lashes & Lips
My single best makeup item: Instant Lift for Brows
The memory that makes me smile from ear to ear: Going to Melbourne of course!

I want to thank every single person who read one of my posts, voted for me or just thought “oh she’s a nice girl” (Probably my Granny on the last one!) And a very special thank you to Alexis and Miranda from Clinique who supported and guided me throughout this year. You’re encouragement and gorgeous smiles have just added to my amazing experience.

“How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.”

Olivia Palermo Style for Less

Dress: Ebay, Shoes: Windsor Smith

Who doesn't love a bargain? I found this little gem on Ebay after searching for some more work appropriate 'Casual Friday' attire. And it was  less than $10! I love navy and white and a t-shirt dress always looks neat. I shop by the mantra WWOD (What Would Olivia Do) and I can see her rocking something similar (she's not buying $10 dresses though ha ha) Olivia Palermo Style on a budget! Sadly, this dress is far too short for work (word of warning for Ebay shoppers, always go for a size up even if it's just for length)  but it's great for the weekend!
This baby is coming with me to Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand in March! Now just to dream of laying back on my beau's yacht a la Olivia...

Bar to Beach: Style Tips and Tricks

Here in Australia that one must master the art of "pub to beach". If you don't, you run the risk of being overdressed for one of the places and I can confirm, this has lead to discomfort on my part before!
However I now have the transition from daytime drinking at a lovely establishment (this weekend it was Scarborough Pub on the South Coast) to beach session sorted out. Here my top tips to move seamlessly between the bar and the beach:

1. Choose Clogs
Your footwear choice should be neat yet casual. Tan heels (black is too harsh for the daytime) are the way to go and with Clogs coming back in fashion you shouldn't be shy about adding a pair to your wardrobe. Needless to say, anything over 3 inches is not 'casual'. Alternatively, bejeweled sandals are always a winner!

2. Outfit of choice: Playsuit
Pretty, flirty, fun and not so over the top you look like you're about to go clubbing. This white playsuit by Keepsake the Label is perfect for a hot summer day! White is fresh, goes well with your tan clogs and is easy to slip off and on at the beach. Extra points if you have a bikini with underwire support that doubles as a bra! This is your opportunity to cheat the system and make your swimsuit a feature of your outfit.

3. Beach Face
Not to be confused with bitch face, the easiest way to avoid looking like a smudgy eyed panda is to bring a little bottle of eye makeup remover (I love my Clinique Take the Day Off sample size!) and a cotton pad. I also like to use a tinted sunscreen for my face to even up my skin tone. Once you leave the bar, wipe away your mascara as your apply your sunscreen and you're ready to frolic in the ocean like the mermaid you know you are at heart!
